sort of a bummer.
In the process of upgrading 4 gems of equal level ( i.e. 4 level four gems ) to -one- of higher value, br went up with the higher value gem. Therefore my conclusion is that gems of, say, lvl 4 + lvl 4 + lvl 4 + lvl 4, that give a br of, whatever, say 15,000, are in fact only equal to ONE level 4, the rest go along for the ride, until the four are upgraded to a higher level gem.
Anyone have similar experiences??

I think you have to provide a bit more detail. Are you saying the 4 gems are off different types or same types socketed to diff equipment?

These were four crit gems of equal value socketed into for different pieces of equipment.
When the four were removed and upgraded to the next higher level, the total br increased, same gems, only upgraded from, say, level ( 4 * 4 ) to level ( 5 * 1 ). It seems that level 5*1 is better that level 4*4.
I only noticed this in passing and will pay much closer attention to the phenomenon in the future to verify my accuracy about the reporting of this seeming..... curiosity..... ?
If this is indeed the case then 4 * 4 is in *reality* ( 1 * 4 ) and 3 slotted to no effect.
As I have become something of a gemologist I should be able to verify this soon, either as a proof, or a mistaken observation on my part. It seems certainly odd that this would be the case, although still within the realms of possibility in a game such as we pursue. E.
Makes socketing rods look like an endangered species.

The gem thing looks more and more like a lottery. No sense to it. br goes up and down at random. nm

But it should be straight forward calculation. Take any gem that you have 4 off, remove 1 at a time and observe if BR goes down and by how much. Take in to account your soul engrave level will effect the number goin gup and down.
